Philosophy of Education

Education is the key to success for all students. As a teacher, I hope to inspire students to discover their inner strengths and abilities and uncover what genuinely motivates them. I aspire to provide a thought-provoking environment that encourages students to trust their own ideas in order to build the confidence they need to achieve their fullest potential.

To facilitate their learning, I believe creating an environment in which students respect each other enough to take risks while sharing ideas, is key to their victory. Each student is a unique individual, and as such, deserves to be in an environment conducive to attaining success.

I actively engage my students in their learning process using hands-on projects. I strive to find ways in which my students will succeed. Included in my curriculum are a variety of activities that help me reach students with a variety of learning styles and abilities. I scaffold my students when they need it and give them autonomy when they are ready. I continually reflect upon my methods and learn form my students to find the right balance in my classroom.

I use strategies that incorporate real-life scenarios to help students understand a content's usefulness in scientific settings as well as typical everyday situations. I use motivating activities to keep them participating in their own learning success. I capitalize on students' strengths to help strengthen their weaknesses.

Something to Think About

"It's ok not to know all the answers. It's better to admit our ignorance than to believe answers that might be wrong. Pretending to know everything closes the door to finding out what's really there."
- Neil Degrasse Tyson, Cosmos 2014

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sail. Explore. Dream. Discover."
- Mark Twain

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelming tasks into small, manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one"
- Mark Twain

"It is our choices... that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
-JK Rowling

"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost more than 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life... and that is why I succeed."
-Michael Jordan

"Eduation is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel."
-Socrates
